Memphis, Day Four

Before heading home we went to Bon Ton Cafe for the best biscuits and gravy I have ever eaten. Afterwards we took a stroll along the Mississippi. We had a nice meal of pizza and pasta at the airport before boarding our flight. Memphis is a unique city rich in American culture and history. We live in a great country with lots to learn and explore. What an amazing experience I had with my mom!

Memphis, Day Three, Part Three

The Doubletree Hotel is conveniently located near Beale Street and many attractions, including the Rock and Soul Museum. We were able to learn about the the story of Memphis music history. It showcases memorabilia of several music pioneers of the genre. We viewed the special exhibit "60 Years of Rock and Roll". Afterwards we went to Charles Vergos Rendezvous restaurant, famous for their sauceless dry rub pork ribs. With the first bite I was intrigued, then realized I couldn't stop eating them. Addictive.

Memphis, Day Three, Part Two

We went to the Mud Island River Park and Museum via the monorail. We had a great view of the Mississippi River and the Hernando de Soto Bridge. The River Park has an exact scale of the lower Mississippi River. The museum shows the history of the Mississippi River Valley. Of course there was a section devoted to Elvis.

Memphis, Day Three, Part One

We checked into the Hilton Doubletree the next morning for our final night in Memphis. My mom was able to secure an early check-in.  We then walked over to the Peabody Hotel and our timing was perfect, we were able to watch the ducks cross over into the lobby's fountain. There was a large crowd and it all happened very quickly. We had lunch at the Flight Restaurant & Wine Bar. I love the concept: a sampling of three dishes with a common theme. I chose a seafood flight, with lobster bisque, shrimp and grits, and scallops. My mom had the New Orleans flight which included a light shrimp po boy, the best I've had. It was substantial and delicious. We shared a dessert flight and we were completely satisfied. It was raining on and off that day but it didn't stop us from seeing the Mississippi River after our meal.

Beale Street, Day Two

After touring Graceland we took the hotel shuttle to Beale Street. We had delicious ribs at BB King's while listening to an amazing blues singer. Along Beale Street there are various shops, restaurants, and bands playing from several establishments, with people enjoying the sights and sounds on the blocked-off street. My mom and I partied it up in the wee hours before heading back to the Heartbreak Hotel.
