The Darbros

Outside of immediate relatives, the Dabros are our best family friends. We've traveled with them and spent lots of time with them, and the kids all get along great. Usually we have a bbq at their ranch house near Mount Baldy, but today we had a potluck at our humble abode.

Bolsa Chica Wetlands

The Bolsa Chica Wetlands is a place where we've hiked, and where Sam's running club has met up until recently. When we first came here as a family years ago, Sam was fascinated by the poster of animals at the start of the trail. It included coyotes, but we've mainly seen marine life and lots of birds... there are often avid birdwatchers, I believe this is a type of heron.

Santa Barbara Day Trip

We love going up to Santa Barbara and our destinations for this day included the pier for lunch, and Steve's alma mater, UCSB. The weather was spectacular and we enjoyed our seafood meal with an ocean view. Afterwards we went for a drive to the university campus, it was quite different than when we last visited before the kids were born, with sparkly new buildings and a cleaned-up lagoon area. UCSB has their own private beach and we had fun there as well. College life seems quite different than before, with an emphasis on a beautiful campus like this one.

Old Town Fiesta

We took a day trip to Old Town San Diego for lunch and window shopping. Little did we know that there was a huge fiesta going on that weekend! Then again, it was the weekend following Cinco de Mayo... Fortunately, we snagged a nice parking spot. It was quite crowded everywhere and we decided to eat lunch at the Cosmopolitan Hotel. The courtyard was lovely and relaxing. I'd recommend the ceviche, and churros are highly recommended. Another fun getaway in Southern California.

Babies and Toddlers

My foodie group is made up of teachers I worked with at Cook Elementary. While one is a full-time mom and I am at another school, we try to get together at least a couple of times a year for a tasty meal and time to catch up on our lives. This day we went to Garlic and Chives, a newer Vietnamese restaurant. This was an ambitious meal for Rita and Tho, they each brought their toddler kids and infants. We all took turns holding the babies and had a great time. For dessert we walked to HoneyMee, their trademark is fresh milkly ice cream with honey topping. You can even order a honeycomb piece with your treat. It was a fun meal with lots of laughs all the way around.
