Mammoth, Day 3

After a quick "hi" to Anna at camp (you might see the money she is clutching as she takes a photo with us), Steve, Sam and I headed to June Lake. The clear waters were quite breathtaking. I felt like this is what the Caribbean might look like. We bumped into our friends the Paytons as we kayaked across the lake. We were able to have Sam sit in the center and used a two-man kayak to get us around the interior perimeter of the lake. It was wonderful. Afterwards we went on a hike to McLeod Lake, near Horseshoe Lake. The area is marked by bare trees as carbon dioxide seeped through the ground from a series of small earthquakes more than 20 years ago. It really adds to the drama of the varying landscape of Mammoth.
