We took the train from Firenze SMN Station to La Spezia Centrale, then took a connecting train to Vernazza. Located on the west coast of Italy, Vernazza is a natural seaside port and considered the jewel of the five cities that make up Cinque Terre. When we saw the first glimpses of the lovely Ligurian Sea from the train, there were large audible gasps from the passengers around us.
Our Airbnb host met us at the Vernazza train station and walked us to our apartment, the third rental for our Italy trip. The view is literally postcard perfect, the pretty pastel colors of the buildings fit in with the terraced grapevine fields of the backdrop. We had lunch at Il Pirata, a short walk away from our coastal apartment and past the train station. Steve ordered the salmon seafood penne and I enjoyed the seafood risotto. We also had panna cotta and cannoli for dessert. It was all so delicious that we had a feeling we might enjoy another meal there during our stay.
