We headed through Piazza della Signoria towards Ponte Vecchio, the Old Bridge, which was the only bridge to cross the Arno River until the early 1200's. There is the bust of 16th century goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini on the bridge, a symbol for all the goldsmiths and jewelers that sell their products there today. We then climbed quite a bit of stairs to get to Piazzale Michelangelo, which had a bronze replica statue of David, as well as a stunning view of the city. The city is densely packed with buildings, yet we could always spot the iconic Duomo.
