We visited the Hulihe'e Palace in Kona before heading out to our next accommodations, the historic Manago Hotel. When we arrived, I felt like I was in the countryside of Japan, the weather was a bit humid, the surrounding buildings had steel corrugated roofs, and there were detailed Asian gardens and koi ponds on the property. Before dinner, we took a walk in the "no trespassing" gardens and stepped along thousands of fallen macadamia nuts, and tasted some mangoes and lychees from the trees, many on the verge of being overripe. Anna and Olivia's bright skirts did little to camouflage us from our sneaky ways, although afterwards one of the workers smiled and asked if we found some good fruit to eat. In the evening we ate at the hotel restaurant, known for its pork chops and family style food.
