Manzanar

We went up to Mammoth a week prior to Anna's summer running camp, we had to leave for a few nights while the house was being fumigated for termites. So we boarded the dogs up at a (luxury) doggie day care and drove up with Mama for our destination. On the way we stopped at Manzanar, the site of an internment camp of Japanese Americans during World War 2. To see the long list of internees, and the displays at the visitor's center was quite an emotional experience. Afterwards we drove the grounds, where only a couple of structures have remained from wartime, compared to when rows and rows of barracks stood. A large stone monument stands at the cemetery site, where people have place strings of colorful paper cranes as remembrance.
