Mammoth, Day 2

While Steve joined Anna's group for a run, Sam and I had a leisurely Starbucks breakfast, in the new downtown area of Mammoth Lakes just across the way from our hotel. Steve then joined us for a hike to Devil's Postpile. This rock formation is over 100 feet high and is an example of "columnar basalt", a rare geological sight to see these hexagonal and pentagonal shapes formed naturally. Fascinating! Afterwards we made it to Rainbow Falls, and Steve and Sam decided to trek atop the rocks surrounded by cold waters to get a closer look. Happy hour dinner and a photo of a rainbow oil slick after the rains ended our fun-filled day.

Mammoth, Day 1

Anna attended summer running camp in Mammoth, and the rest of the family decided to join her for a few days. We stayed at the Westin Monache. We were pleasantly surprised by the location and amenities of the hotel. Anna was still more than happy at the campgrounds with her friends but joined us for a tasty dinner at Toomey's (to save her from hamburger night). We also enjoyed a hike around Horseshoe Lake, I went one direction while Steve jogged and Sam biked the reverse loop. An evening swim topped off our first day in Mammoth.

Paulina is 2!

Cub Scouts

We're so proud of Sam completing his weeklong Cub Scouts Day Camp. He participated in archery, fishing, games, science, making crafts, and performing in skits. Here, we attended the culminating presentations at the end of the week. Great job, Sam!

We're So Fancy!

Marilyn took these amazing photos at the pool during our visit up north. The swimmers are attempting to catch a squishy ball being thrown to them, sometimes while creating mid-air poses. Nice!

Huntington Gardens

We met up with my mom, Yumi, Rob and Paulina at one of my favorite places, the Huntington Gardens. Paulina was the center of attention as we visited the Children's Garden and dropped rocks through the musical rock sculpture, and ate Asian food at the Chinese Garden.
The Huntington Gardens has a beautiful collection of European artwork. Standouts include "Blue Boy" and "Pinkie".
